Dominican Emergency Medical Team Surpasses 1,200 Consultations in Venezuela

The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Medical Team (EMT-RD) has delivered more than 1,200 medical consultations in Venezuela just six days after arriving to support communities impacted by the recent earthquake, with its field hospital becoming one of the busiest medical facilities operating in the disaster area.

The deployment forms part of the government’s Quisqueya Solidaria Humanitarian Mission and represents a milestone for the country as the first international mission carried out by a World Health Organization (WHO)-certified Type 1 Emergency Medical Team from the Dominican Republic.

Comprehensive Medical and Humanitarian Assistance

According to official figures, Dominican healthcare professionals have provided 710 general and emergency consultations, 232 gynecological services, 144 pediatric consultations, and 114 mental health interventions since the mission began.

In addition to medical care, the team has distributed essential medicines, administered vaccines, performed diagnostic tests, produced safe drinking water, and carried out water, sanitation, and public health promotion activities to help reduce the risk of disease in affected communities.

Growing Demand for Medical Services

The Dominican field hospital treated 181 patients on Saturday alone, underscoring the increasing demand for healthcare services as earthquake-affected communities continue their recovery.

The mission is staffed by physicians, nurses, psychologists, pharmacists, water and sanitation specialists, and logistics personnel from the Dominican Ministry of Public Health, working together to provide comprehensive emergency medical care.

Expanding International Humanitarian Capacity

Authorities said the operation demonstrates the Dominican Republic’s growing ability to provide internationally certified humanitarian and emergency medical assistance beyond its borders.

The deployment also reflects the country’s continued investment in emergency preparedness and disaster response, allowing Dominican medical professionals to contribute to international relief efforts while delivering critical healthcare services to populations affected by natural disasters.
