More than 500 National Police officers will be assigned to a special security operation for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, authorities announced Friday. The operation is designed to ensure the safety of more than 6,000 athletes, team delegations, visitors, and local residents during the competition.
National Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira said the security plan will be coordinated by the Ministry of Defense and will include a comprehensive traffic management strategy to facilitate the movement of athletes, officials, and spectators.
Security at Competition Venues
According to Pesqueira, the operation follows directives issued by President Luis Abinader and will position officers at the Games’ principal venues, including the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the Central American Games Village, the Parque del Este Sports Complex, and other competition sites hosting the various sporting disciplines.
Authorities said the deployment is intended to provide a visible security presence while ensuring a safe environment for participants and visitors throughout the event.
Multi-Agency Security Plan
The operation will also reinforce preventive patrols in high-traffic areas and major tourist destinations. Traffic coordination will be carried out alongside the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) to maintain safe and efficient mobility during the Games.
In addition to the Preventive Police, the security plan will include personnel from POLITUR, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DICRIM), and intelligence agencies to ensure a rapid response to any incidents.
Assistance Centers for Visitors
Command centers and public assistance posts will be established at competition venues to help spectators and participants, including responding to reports of lost persons or misplaced belongings.
The security operation will remain in effect from the opening ceremony through the closing of the Games and may be expanded if circumstances require. Authorities said the objective is to guarantee a safe and successful event for thousands of athletes, officials, tourists, and fans expected to attend the region’s premier multi-sport competition.
