The Dominican Republic has been recognized among the 50 Best Beach Travel Destinations in the World for 2026, ranking No. 25 in a global list published by Travel And Tour World (TTW). The ranking highlights destinations that deliver outstanding coastal travel experiences through a combination of natural beauty, visitor experience, tourism infrastructure, sustainability, marine ecosystems and cultural appeal.
According to TTW, the Dominican Republic stands out for its mix of palm-lined beaches, luxury all-inclusive resorts and rich Caribbean heritage. The publication notes that visitors can experience everything from the internationally known shores of Punta Cana and Bayahíbe to the scenic beaches of Samaná and Puerto Plata, where activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, sailing, deep-sea fishing and catamaran cruises.
Ten Dominican Beaches Highlighted by TTW
The ranking also identifies ten beaches that showcase the country’s coastal diversity:
Canto de la Playa on Saona Island, known for its white sand and turquoise waters; Bávaro Beach in Punta Cana, famous for its calm waters and luxury resorts; Playa Rincón in Samaná, surrounded by coconut palms and largely unspoiled landscapes; Playa Bonita in Las Terrenas, recognized for its boutique hotels and tranquil setting; Bahía de las Águilas in Pedernales, a protected and remote bay considered one of the Caribbean’s hidden gems; Playa Frontón in Samaná, known for dramatic cliffs and snorkeling; Playa Cosón in Las Terrenas, lined with palm trees and rolling waves; Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana, offering calm waters and upscale surroundings; Playa Grande in Río San Juan, distinguished by its golden sand and Atlantic coastline; and Playa Macao in Punta Cana, a favorite among surfers thanks to its natural setting and consistent waves.
A Global Ranking of Coastal Tourism
TTW’s 2026 ranking was based on an extensive evaluation of more than 500 beaches worldwide, recognizing countries that combine scenic coastlines with quality visitor experiences, sustainable tourism practices and strong cultural identities. The publication says today’s travelers increasingly seek authentic experiences that balance natural beauty with environmental responsibility and meaningful connections to local communities.
The 2026 list is led by Greece, followed by Australia, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, the United States, Türkiye, the Philippines, Italy and Portugal. Together, the destinations represent a broad range of coastal landscapes, from Mediterranean islands and Caribbean beaches to Pacific archipelagos, Indian Ocean retreats and Atlantic shorelines.
Recognition for Sustainable Coastal Tourism
Travel And Tour World founder and Editor-in-Chief Anup Kumar Keshan said the countries included in the ranking demonstrate how beach destinations can successfully combine environmental protection with tourism growth. According to Keshan, the featured destinations illustrate how responsible coastal tourism supports local economies, protects fragile ecosystems and creates memorable travel experiences for visitors from around the world.
