The Ministry of Culture has renewed its support for a national competition that invites Dominican artisans and emerging artists to design and produce the official trophy for the 2026 Los + Ecoístas RD Awards. Now in its third consecutive year, the initiative aims to showcase local creativity while encouraging environmentally responsible artistic production.
Organized in partnership with Piñero, the contest is open to emerging creators from across the Dominican Republic. Participants are invited to submit original proposals for the award that will be presented to winners of the third edition of the sustainability awards, which recognize projects focused on environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
Supporting Emerging Talent Through Sustainable Design
Alicia Baroni, Vice Minister of Cultural Industries at the Ministry of Culture, said the initiative offers young creators an opportunity to gain national visibility through a project that combines artistic expression, Dominican cultural identity, and environmental awareness.
Baroni explained that participants are encouraged to transform recycled materials into a unique trophy that reflects the values of sustainability and creativity promoted by the awards.
“This movement created by Piñero, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, invites emerging artists and artisans from across the country to design the official trophy for the third edition of the Los + Ecoístas RD Awards, transforming recycled materials into a unique piece filled with creativity and meaning,” she said.
Art as a Tool for Environmental Awareness
According to Baroni, the competition goes beyond producing an award, serving as a platform to support the professional development of emerging artisans while promoting the responsible use of sustainable materials in craft production.
She added that the Ministry of Culture backs initiatives that strengthen Dominican cultural identity and demonstrate how art can contribute to positive social and environmental change.
“We believe that art and craftsmanship have the power to transform much more than materials. They can raise awareness, inspire conversations, and encourage people to view sustainability from a different perspective,” Baroni said.
Recognizing Sustainability Across Multiple Sectors
The Los + Ecoístas RD Awards, organized by Piñero, recognize companies, institutions, suppliers, and partners that develop initiatives related to energy, climate action, the circular economy, and biodiversity conservation.
The 2026 edition will also expand its recognition by introducing categories for content creators, sustainability advocates, and media outlets specializing in environmental issues, reflecting the growing role of communication and public engagement in promoting sustainable practices.
