Residents of Herrera Call for Greater Police Presence Following Wave of Robberies

Concerns over public safety continue to grow in the Herrera sector of Santo Domingo Oeste, where residents say an increase in criminal activity has left many people fearful and calling for a stronger police presence.

The latest incident occurred on July 22, 2026, in the Duarte neighborhood, where surveillance cameras recorded an armed robbery in broad daylight. The footage shows two suspects riding a motorcycle intercepting two other individuals who were also traveling by motorcycle before stealing their belongings.

Residents Report Ongoing Security Concerns

The robbery is the latest in a series of incidents that have heightened concerns among residents. Community members say repeated criminal acts have created an atmosphere of insecurity in Herrera and nearby neighborhoods, prompting calls for authorities to strengthen preventive patrols and improve public safety.

Previous Robbery Also Captured on Camera

Residents also recalled an earlier incident that took place during the early hours of July 13 in the Reparto Rosa neighborhood. According to reports, four masked men surprised a couple and robbed them of their belongings.

That attack, like the most recent robbery, added to growing concerns over violent crime in the municipality.

Calls for Increased Police Presence

Community leaders and residents are urging law enforcement authorities to increase police patrols and implement measures aimed at reducing crime in the area. They argue that a stronger security presence is necessary to restore confidence and protect residents from further criminal activity.

Local residents say they hope authorities will respond quickly to address what they describe as a growing public safety problem affecting Herrera and surrounding communities.
