A fire that broke out at the Senator Hotels & Resorts complex in Maimón, Puerto Plata, has been brought fully under control following a coordinated response by emergency services, according to Atahualpa Paulino, regional director for northern operations at the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism.
Paulino said the blaze affected a hotel building that was out of service and unoccupied at the time of the incident. As a result, no guests or staff were injured, and authorities reported no loss of life.
Active Hotels Continue Operating Normally
The Ministry of Tourism emphasized that the fire did not affect the operations of Senator Bachata or Senator Puerto Plata, both of which continue to welcome guests and provide services without interruption.
Officials also reiterated that the municipal district of Maimón and the wider Puerto Plata province remain safe and fully operational as tourist destinations, with hotel and tourism activities continuing as usual.
Emergency Response Prevented Further Damage
Paulino praised the rapid intervention of multiple emergency agencies, including the fire departments of Maimón and Puerto Plata, the Dominican Civil Defense, the Tourist Police (Politur), the National Police, the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD), the 9-1-1 National Emergency System, Rescate Ámbar, Maimón Mayor Divison Sánchez, personnel from Senator Hotels & Resorts, and other responding institutions.
According to the ministry, the coordinated effort enabled firefighters and emergency responders to contain the blaze quickly while protecting both people and nearby facilities.
Cause Under Investigation
Authorities said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The appropriate agencies are investigating the incident and assessing the extent of the material damage to the affected building.
The Ministry of Tourism stressed that the incident was isolated to a non-operational section of the resort complex and has had no impact on the broader tourism industry in Puerto Plata, one of the Dominican Republic’s leading coastal destinations.
