Blu Terrenas has officially opened the first phase of its master-planned development in Las Terrenas, Samaná Province, while also marking the groundbreaking of Almare Beach Resort Las Terrenas, Curio Collection by Hilton, reinforcing the area’s position as one of the Dominican Republic’s fastest-growing tourism destinations.
During the inauguration ceremony, Enzo Odoguardi, CEO of Mirage Group, described Blu Terrenas as a sustainable tropical city designed to support the long-term economic, tourism, and social development of Las Terrenas through a combination of modern infrastructure, environmental responsibility, and community integration.
Large-Scale Mixed-Use Development
The project spans more than 3 million square meters and includes plans for 2,375 apartments and villas, international hotels, a shopping center, themed restaurants, a French boulevard, an Italian piazza, a beach club, a 1,700-meter navigable canal, an ecological park, an amphitheater, a convention center, a gym, a spa, and a range of amenities for residents and visitors.
Developers say the project is intended to combine tourism, residential living, and commercial activity within a single integrated destination while preserving the surrounding natural environment.
Hilton Resort Scheduled to Open in 2028
Construction has also begun on Almare Beach Resort Las Terrenas, Curio Collection by Hilton, which is scheduled to open in 2028. The resort will feature 226 accommodations, a beach club, four swimming pools, a spa, a fitness center, padel courts, and multiple dining venues.
The addition of the Curio Collection property will further expand Hilton’s presence in the Dominican Republic while strengthening Las Terrenas’ appeal as an upscale Caribbean destination.
Investment Expected to Support Local Development
According to the developers, Blu Terrenas is expected to generate more than 2,500 jobs and will include a tourism training academy along with educational programs for local youth. The initiative also plans to develop infrastructure intended to support the surrounding community and contribute to the province’s long-term economic growth.
The ceremony was attended by Sergio Maffettone, Italy’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic; Pedro Catrain, senator for Samaná Province; Eduardo Esteban, mayor of Las Terrenas; Roberto Henríquez, vice minister of tourism; and Louis Journel, Director of Development at Hilton Worldwide. Speakers highlighted the project’s role in attracting international investment and expanding the country’s tourism offering.
With the opening of its first phase and the launch of the Hilton resort, Blu Terrenas aims to position Las Terrenas as an increasingly competitive destination for international travelers, second-home buyers, and investors seeking opportunities in the Caribbean.
