Editorial Policy
DominicanScope is an independent English-language digital news organization focused on the Dominican Republic. Our mission is to provide accurate, fair and contextual journalism that helps readers understand the country, its people and the events shaping its future.
This Editorial Policy explains the principles that guide our journalism and our commitment to our readers.
Editorial Independence
DominicanScope is editorially independent. Our coverage and editorial decisions are not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, commercial partners, political organizations or government institutions.
Advertising and commercial relationships are kept separate from editorial decisions. No advertiser, sponsor or commercial partner determines what we publish, how we report a story or the conclusions we reach.
Accuracy and Verification
Accuracy is at the center of our journalism. We make reasonable efforts to verify the information we publish using reliable sources and, whenever possible, primary or official documentation.
Depending on the story, we may use information from government institutions, public records, courts, international organizations, companies, experts, academic institutions, official statements, interviews and other credible sources.
When information cannot be independently verified, we seek to make its source and limitations clear to our readers.
Fairness and Impartiality
We strive to report fairly and without favoring particular political, commercial or ideological interests.
When reporting on disputed or controversial matters, we seek to include relevant perspectives and, where appropriate, give individuals or organizations the opportunity to respond to significant allegations or claims concerning them.
We do not deliberately mislead readers through sensationalism, misleading headlines or the presentation of speculation as fact.
News, Analysis and Opinion
DominicanScope distinguishes between news reporting, analysis and opinion.
News articles are intended to present verified information as accurately and impartially as possible. Analysis may provide additional explanation, context or interpretation based on available facts and evidence.
Opinion and commentary, when published, will be clearly identified as such and will not be presented as straight news reporting.
Sources and Attribution
We value reliable and transparent sourcing. Whenever appropriate, we identify the sources of information and provide links to relevant primary documents or external sources.
We give particular weight to official records, direct statements, primary documentation and independent sources. Information from a single source may be reported when editorially justified, but significant claims may be subject to additional verification.
Anonymous sources may be used in exceptional circumstances when there is a legitimate public interest in the information and protecting the source is necessary. When used, such information is assessed carefully and, where possible, independently corroborated.
Context
DominicanScope serves an international audience, including readers who may not be familiar with the Dominican Republic.
We therefore seek to provide relevant context when reporting on political, economic, social, legal, cultural or other developments.
Our objective is not only to tell readers what happened, but also to help them understand why it matters.
Headlines and Presentation
Headlines, summaries, photographs, captions and other elements used to present our journalism should accurately reflect the content of the underlying story.
We seek to avoid sensationalism, exaggeration and presentation techniques that could give readers a materially misleading impression of the facts.
Corrections and Updates
We take accuracy seriously and correct significant factual errors when they are identified.
Corrections are made as promptly as reasonably possible. When appropriate, significant corrections or clarifications may be identified within the article so that readers can understand what has changed.
Articles may also be updated when new, relevant and verified information becomes available. Updates are intended to improve the accuracy, clarity and completeness of our reporting.
Readers who believe that an article contains a factual error are encouraged to contact us at contact@dominicanscope.com.
Conflicts of Interest
We seek to avoid conflicts of interest that could compromise, or reasonably appear to compromise, the independence and credibility of our journalism.
Where a potential conflict is relevant to a published story, we may provide appropriate disclosure or take other measures to protect editorial integrity.
Sponsored Content
Sponsored, promotional or paid content is clearly identified so that readers can distinguish it from independent editorial content.
Commercial content does not determine our news coverage or editorial decisions.
Privacy and Respect
We respect the privacy and dignity of individuals while recognizing the legitimate public interest in certain information.
Personal information is not published simply because it is available. When reporting involves private individuals or sensitive circumstances, we consider the relevance, accuracy and public interest of the information before publication.
Our handling of personal information is also governed by our Privacy Policy.
Copyright and External Content
Unless otherwise indicated, original editorial content published by DominicanScope is protected by applicable copyright laws and belongs to Ibiut Media or the respective rights holder.
External Links
Our articles may contain links to external websites, documents or other resources that provide additional information or context.
The inclusion of an external link does not necessarily constitute an endorsement of the linked website, organization, product or service.
Our Commitment
DominicanScope is committed to journalism based on accuracy, independence, fairness, transparency and respect for the public interest.
We recognize that no news organization is infallible. When we make significant mistakes, we seek to correct them responsibly and transparently. We also welcome legitimate feedback from our readers as part of our commitment to improving the quality of our journalism.
This Editorial Policy may be updated from time to time as our editorial practices evolve.
