An overflowing garbage container on Prolongación Venezuela Avenue in the Los Tres Brazos neighborhood of Santo Domingo Este has become a growing concern for nearby residents, who say the accumulation of waste is creating unsanitary conditions and affecting the surrounding area.
According to information obtained by Diario Eco, the container regularly receives waste delivered by three-wheeled collection vehicles operated by the Santo Domingo Este City Hall (ASDE), as well as trucks belonging to private companies. Residents argue that the volume of waste being deposited exceeds the container’s capacity, causing trash to spill onto the sidewalk and part of the roadway.
Residents Question the Container’s Intended Use
The situation has prompted residents to question whether the site is functioning as a standard public garbage container or as an unofficial waste transfer point. Community members say the container receives not only household waste from local residents but also garbage collected by municipal vehicles and waste generated by businesses operating in the area.
As a result, large quantities of trash frequently accumulate around the container instead of remaining inside it, creating an environmental and public health concern for people living and working nearby.
Scavenging Activity Adds to the Problem
Residents also report that individuals who search through garbage for recyclable materials regularly remove items from the container, leaving bags, cardboard boxes, and other waste scattered around the site. They say this activity further contributes to the unsanitary conditions and increases the amount of litter left on public spaces.
Photographs from the area show garbage piled both inside and outside the container, with waste extending onto the adjacent sidewalk and roadway. A three-wheeled municipal collection vehicle bearing the Costa del Faro branding and the ASDE logo was also seen parked next to the container after unloading its contents.
Residents are calling attention to the conditions surrounding the site and raising concerns about its impact on sanitation, environmental quality, and the daily life of the surrounding community.
