Dominican MLB Players Make Their Mark In Friday’s Games

Sandy Alcantara turned in one of the stronger pitching performances by a Dominican player Friday, but the Miami Marlins fell 1-0 to the Cincinnati Reds. The right-hander worked seven innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out two and walking four. The loss moved his record to 13-7 with a 3.43 ERA.

The only run against Alcantara came in the sixth inning, when Eugenio Suárez delivered an RBI double for Cincinnati. Alcantara kept the Reds off the scoreboard otherwise, but Miami’s offense managed only four hits and could not produce a run in the pitchers’ duel. Chase Burns held the Marlins scoreless over seven innings to earn the victory for Cincinnati.

Medina Helps Athletics Beat Rangers

In Sacramento, Luis Medina earned the win as the Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers 8-3. The Dominican right-hander entered in the sixth inning and threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits while issuing one walk and striking out two. The performance improved his record to 3-3 and left his ERA at 3.67.

The Athletics built an early 3-0 advantage before Texas tied the game in the sixth. Oakland responded with one run in the seventh and three more in the eighth to pull away. The victory gave Medina his third win of the season while strengthening his role as a contributor out of the Athletics’ bullpen.

Astros Rally in Extra Innings

The most dramatic finish of Friday’s schedule came in Houston, where the Astros defeated the Seattle Mariners 10-7 in 10 innings. Christian Walker ended the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the 10th after Seattle had taken a two-run lead in the top half of the inning.

Yordan Alvarez also homered for Houston, while Isaac Paredes collected two hits and drove in three runs. The result was particularly significant in the American League West race, as Houston improved to 63-60 while Seattle dropped to 57-66.

Dodgers Close Gap on Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers also secured an important victory, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 behind a strong outing from Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Japanese right-hander struck out nine over six innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Andy Pages provided the decisive offensive contribution with a go-ahead home run, while Tommy Edman added another solo shot. Edwin Díaz worked through a difficult ninth inning but completed the save, allowing Los Angeles to move within one game of Milwaukee in the National League standings.

Friday’s results included several other notable performances, with the Chicago Cubs beating the St. Louis Cardinals 3-0, Pittsburgh defeating Boston 8-4, the Chicago White Sox topping Detroit 9-5 and Toronto beating the New York Yankees 3-1. Arizona also shut out Atlanta 2-0, while Kansas City edged the Los Angeles Angels 7-6.
