Dominican Golfers Set for National Match Play Championship at Punta Espada

The Dominican National Match Play Championship will return to Punta Espada Golf Club in Cap Cana, bringing together the country’s top amateur and professional golfers for three days of head-to-head competition on one of the Caribbean’s most acclaimed courses.

Organized by the Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf) with the support of Cap Cana, the tournament features 72 players who earned their places by finishing among the top eight competitors in their respective divisions during the Fedogolf National Tour held in early June.

Three-Day Championship Schedule

The competition begins on Friday, July 31, with player registration starting at 11:00 a.m. The opening matches for Category A will tee off at 1:00 p.m. from the first hole.

Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for the morning of Saturday, August 1, with simultaneous starts from the first and 10th tees beginning at 7:30 a.m. Semifinal contests will follow later that afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

The championship concludes on Sunday, August 2, when finalists compete for national titles before an awards luncheon at 1:00 p.m. recognizes the winners in each division.

Top Players Across Multiple Divisions

The tournament includes a broad range of competitive categories: Professional, A, Mid Amateur, AA, B, C, D, Senior A, Senior B, Senior C, Super Senior A, and Super Senior B. Qualification was reserved for the highest-ranked players from each division following the Fedogolf National Tour.

Punta Espada’s Role in Dominican Golf

Since opening in November 2006, Punta Espada Golf Club has become one of the Dominican Republic’s flagship golf venues and is widely recognized as one of the Caribbean’s premier championship courses. Located within Cap Cana on the country’s eastern coast, the course has regularly hosted national and international tournaments while supporting the growth of both professional and amateur golf in the Dominican Republic.

Defending Champions

The championship follows recent editions that crowned standout Dominican golfers. Puerto Plata native Julio Santos claimed the national title in 2024, while Juan José Guerra of Santo Domingo secured the 2025 championship after winning his final over 18 holes.

This year’s event offers another opportunity for the country’s leading golfers to compete for national honors while showcasing the continued development of competitive golf in the Dominican Republic.
