Dominican Republic Sweeps Cuba to Stay Unbeaten at CAC Games
The Dominican Republic's women's volleyball team defeated Cuba in straight sets on Monday to improve to 2-0 in Group B of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, extending its bid for a seventh consecutive regional title.
The Dominican Republic continued its dominant start at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games with a convincing straight-set victory over Cuba on Monday, strengthening its position atop Group B and moving one step closer to another championship.
The defending champions needed just three sets to secure the win, posting scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-17. The result keeps the Dominican squad undefeated in the tournament as it pursues a remarkable seventh consecutive women’s volleyball title at the regional event.
Balanced Performance Powers Dominican Victory
Head coach Marcos Kwiek opened the match with a lineup featuring Niverka Marte, Gaila González, Yaneiris Martínez, Brayelín Martínez, Yonkaira Peña, and Geraldine González. The experienced group quickly established control of the match, limiting Cuba’s opportunities throughout the contest.
With the outcome well in hand, Kwiek rotated his bench during the match, allowing several reserve players to gain valuable court time at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace, the tournament’s competition venue.
Group B Showdown Awaits
The victory improved the Dominican Republic’s record to 2-0 in Group B. The team will face Puerto Rico on Tuesday in a matchup expected to determine first place in the group.
Meanwhile, Cuba dropped to 1-1 and will look to rebound against Costa Rica, which has struggled in the opening stage of the competition.
The Dominican Republic has established itself as one of the region’s most successful women’s volleyball programs, and Monday’s performance reinforced its status as the team to beat as the tournament progresses.
