José Ramírez Reaches 1,000 RBIs With Cleveland

José Ramírez reached another milestone in his Major League Baseball career Friday, becoming only the second player in Cleveland franchise history to record 1,000 runs batted in.

The Dominican third baseman reached the mark with a solo home run in the sixth inning as the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Oakland Athletics 5-3 at Progressive Field. The blast was the 297th home run of Ramírez’s career.

Ramírez Joins Cleveland Legend Earl Averill

Ramírez now stands alongside Hall of Famer Earl Averill as the only Cleveland players to reach 1,000 career RBIs. Averill finished his Cleveland career with 1,084 RBIs, leaving Ramírez 84 runs batted in behind the franchise record.

The achievement adds another significant statistical mark to Ramírez’s Cleveland career. Since establishing himself as one of the Guardians’ key offensive players, he has accumulated milestones across several major offensive categories while remaining one of the most recognizable Dominican players in MLB.

A Milestone Home Run

Ramírez’s milestone homer came off the bat at 102.4 mph and traveled a projected 401 feet, according to Statcast. It was his first home run since August 30.

The 34-year-old went 2-for-4 with the home run, two RBIs and one run scored. His performance helped Cleveland overcome an early 3-0 deficit and complete the comeback.

The victory improved the Guardians’ record to 79-75 and extended their winning streak to three games.

Another Milestone for the Dominican Star

Reaching 1,000 RBIs also placed Ramírez in a relatively small group of active Major League players. He became the 12th active player to reach the milestone, adding another distinction to a career that has continued to produce notable achievements despite an injury-interrupted season.

Ramírez missed 30 games after suffering a left-hand injury that required surgery. His return has allowed him to continue adding to his career totals and to strengthen his place among Cleveland’s most productive hitters.

With 1,000 RBIs now on his record and 297 career home runs, Ramírez remains within reach of another major franchise benchmark: Averill’s Cleveland RBI record of 1,084. The Dominican star needs 85 more RBIs to surpass the Hall of Famer and become the franchise’s all-time leader in the category.
