Puerto Plata Golf Club to Host 51st Rotating Cup Golf Tournament
More than 140 golfers are expected to compete in the 51st edition of the Puerto Plata Golf Club's Rotating Cup, one of the Dominican Republic's longest-running golf tournaments, with this year's event honoring Fernando Ortega Brugal for his longstanding contribution to the club and the sport.
The Puerto Plata Golf Club has announced the 51st edition of its prestigious Rotating Cup Golf Tournament, bringing together more than 140 golfers for one of the Dominican Republic’s most established amateur competitions. This year’s tournament will pay tribute to Fernando Ortega Brugal, widely known as “Don Nano,” in recognition of his years of dedication to the development of golf and his support for the club.
The tournament is scheduled to take place on August 29 and September 4–5. According to club president Juan Antonio Morales, the Rotating Cup remains one of the most significant sporting events in Puerto Plata and continues to be a highlight of the golf calendar in the country’s northern region.
A Tradition in Dominican Golf
Morales said the tournament holds special importance for both the club and the local community, reflecting more than five decades of golfing tradition. This year’s dedication to Ortega Brugal recognizes his longstanding commitment to promoting the sport and supporting the growth of the Puerto Plata Golf Club.
The competition on September 4 and 5 will be open to both national and international golfers, a format that organizers expect will maintain a high level of competition while attracting players from across the Dominican Republic and abroad.
Tournament Format and Awards
According to Américo Núñez, director of Playa Dorada Golf Club, the event is the second-oldest golf tournament in the Dominican Republic, surpassed only by the national championships organized by the Dominican Golf Federation (Fedogolf).
The tournament will be played in an individual Stroke Play format for both the club’s traditional Rotating Cup and the Open Rotating Cup, which welcomes invited guests and friends of the institution.
Organizers will also present awards for the best gross and net scores, along with special prizes for the longest drive, the straightest drive, a hole-in-one, and closest-to-the-pin on the 17th hole.
