The Dominican Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) announced that it delivered 890 apartments during the first six months of 2026 through the government’s Familia Feliz and Mi Vivienda housing programs, providing more than 2,600 Dominicans with access to permanent housing.
The latest milestone was marked during the inauguration of the Nuevas Esperanzas II residential project in Andrés, Boca Chica, where President Luis Abinader handed over 112 apartments. According to the government, the new development will benefit more than 600 people as part of the National Housing Plan Familia Feliz.
Government Highlights Progress on Affordable Housing
Housing Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó said the first-half results reflect the government’s commitment to expanding access to safe and affordable housing. He noted that nearly 900 apartments have already been delivered this year, allowing thousands of families to begin a new chapter as homeowners.
Bisonó said the achievements demonstrate the purpose of public policy by delivering tangible results to citizens. He also projected that the pace of housing deliveries will increase during the second half of 2026 as additional projects are completed across the country.
Women and Young Adults Represent Most Beneficiaries
Demographic data released by MIVHED show that 58.62% of the homes delivered have been titled to women, highlighting the program’s focus on supporting female heads of household. The ministry also reported that 53.01% of beneficiaries are between the ages of 18 and 35, reflecting increased access to homeownership among younger Dominicans.
According to the ministry, 84% of new homeowners are part of the economically active population. Officials said the initiative is helping working families move away from informal rental arrangements while building long-term financial security through homeownership.
Financial Assistance Supports Home Purchases
The government continues to assist qualifying families through a package of financial incentives that includes the Initial Bonus, Interest Rate Bonus, First Home Bonus, and the Women’s Bonus. These subsidies are designed to reduce the financial barriers to purchasing a first home.
Bisonó also credited the progress achieved during the first half of the year to collaboration between the government and the private sector, describing the partnership as essential to expanding affordable housing nationwide.
Familia Feliz Program Continues Expanding
The Familia Feliz National Housing Plan was created to help low-income Dominican families gain access to affordable homeownership while reducing the country’s housing deficit. Through the National Housing Fund (FONVIVIENDA), MIVHED said it continues reviewing applications submitted through December 30, 2025, to allocate available housing units using transparency, efficiency, and equity as guiding principles.
Government officials said the delivery of the Nuevas Esperanzas II project reinforces the administration’s commitment to expanding housing opportunities, improving quality of life, and promoting more inclusive urban development throughout the Dominican Republic.
