The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) announced Sunday that it is monitoring an area of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms associated with a trough located over the northern portion of the Gulf of America and near the Florida peninsula.
According to the meteorological agency, the system currently has a 60% probability of cyclonic development over the next 48 hours. Indomet said that the same probability also applies over the next seven days as forecasters continue to monitor its evolution.
No Threat to the Dominican Republic
Despite the system’s potential for further development, Indomet emphasized that it does not pose a danger to the Dominican Republic at this time. The agency said the disturbance’s current location, its distance from Dominican territory, and its projected path indicate that it is not expected to affect the country.
Authorities urged the public to stay informed through official weather updates but stressed that there is currently no cause for concern related to the system.
Monitoring Continues
Indomet said it will continue to closely monitor the weather disturbance and provide updated information should its intensity, track, or other conditions change. The agency routinely tracks tropical systems during the Atlantic hurricane season to provide early warnings when necessary.
