According to information shared by Cisco, artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a practical tool to help organizations move beyond reactive security models. AI technologies can assist businesses in identifying potential threats earlier, analyzing large volumes of security data, and responding more quickly to cyber incidents before they disrupt operations.
Global Studies Highlight Cybersecurity Readiness Gaps
The Global Digital Trust Insights 2026 report identifies AI as the leading cybersecurity investment priority for the next 12 months. However, the research also suggests that many organizations remain insufficiently prepared for today’s cyber threats. Only about half of security and operations leaders believe their organizations are highly capable of withstanding cyberattacks, while just 6% consider themselves fully prepared across all evaluated areas.
Separate findings from a global AI survey conducted in 2025 indicate that 88% of organizations already use AI regularly in at least one business function. Even so, most companies remain in pilot or experimental phases, with only around one-third beginning to deploy AI at an enterprise-wide scale.
The research suggests that organizations achieve the greatest value when AI adoption is accompanied by broader improvements in workflows, data management, technology infrastructure, and employee adoption, rather than treating AI as a standalone solution.
AI’s Expanding Role in Cyber Defense
According to Cisco, AI can strengthen cybersecurity by automating threat detection, identifying unusual behavior across networks, correlating security incidents, and supporting real-time response. The technology also contributes to identity management, endpoint protection, cloud security, and the operation of broader security platforms.
For businesses operating in the Dominican Republic, these capabilities are becoming increasingly relevant in industries where technology outages can have significant operational, financial, and reputational consequences. Sectors such as financial services, energy, retail, and tourism are among those facing growing pressure to improve cyber resilience.
