The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) is moving forward with preparations for the start of the 2026–2027 school year, scheduled to begin on August 24. More than two million students are expected to return to public schools nationwide as the ministry works to ensure classes begin under appropriate conditions.
According to the ministry, the ongoing preparations are focused on guaranteeing that schools have the necessary resources, services, and operational conditions in place from the first day of classes. The effort includes coordinating logistical and administrative processes designed to support an orderly and efficient start to the academic calendar.
Focus on School Readiness
Education officials said the initiative reflects the commitment of Education Minister Luis Miguel De Camps to provide a successful beginning to the new school year while prioritizing student well-being and strengthening the quality of the country’s education system.
The ministry noted that multiple operational components are being coordinated to ensure students return to learning environments that are properly prepared for teaching and academic activities.
Parents Encouraged to Take an Active Role
MINERD also emphasized the importance of family participation in the educational process.
