INABIE Distributes 744,489 School Kits For 2026-27
The Dominican Republic’s National Institute of Student Welfare has distributed 744,489 school kits ahead of the 2026-2027 academic year, with deliveries continuing across several regions as schools prepare to reopen.
The National Institute of Student Welfare (INABIE), the Dominican government agency responsible for student support programs, has distributed 744,489 school kits for the 2026-2027 academic year as it accelerates deliveries to public schools across the country.
The distribution has so far covered the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo, Santiago, Bahoruco, Barahona, La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Hato Mayor, El Seibo and Monte Plata. INABIE has also extended working hours and strengthened its operational teams to maintain the flow of supplies to educational districts.
Deliveries Continue In The Eastern Region
The next stage of the program includes the delivery of more than 16,950 kits in Higüey, a city in La Altagracia Province in the eastern Dominican Republic. The supplies are scheduled to reach students at 21 educational centers within Educational District 12-01.
The distribution will then move to the northeastern region, beginning with schools in Nagua. The process is designed to move supplies from educational districts to individual schools, where they can be handed over to students and their families.
Program Covers More Than 1.8 Million Students
For the 2026-2027 school year, the program is expected to benefit more than 1.8 million students attending 6,577 public schools. INABIE estimates that the initiative will directly affect more than 1.4 million families.
Each student is scheduled to receive essential school supplies at no cost, together with a uniform package consisting of a polo shirt, pants, socks and shoes. Earlier information from INABIE indicated that the program is intended to ensure students have the basic materials needed when classes begin.
The scale of the program also gives the distribution a direct household impact. INABIE estimates that providing the school materials and uniform represents savings of between RD$3,864 and RD$5,433 per student, reducing part of the expense families face before the start of a new school year.
Families And Schools Welcome The Deliveries
Parents and school administrators have expressed positive views about the distribution, particularly because the supplies can reduce back-to-school costs and help students begin the academic year with the materials they need.
Elizabeth Serrano, the mother of a student at Politécnico Manuel Aurelio Tavárez Justo, described the assistance as significant for her household budget. School teams have also highlighted the importance of organizing deliveries so that kits can be distributed to families as supplies arrive.
INABIE’s school-supply program is part of the public education support system in the Dominican Republic, where the government provides students with essential materials and uniforms to reduce the financial burden associated with attending school.
