AWS Launches 50,000 Free AI And Cloud Scholarships In Dominican Republic

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching a new technology training initiative in the Dominican Republic that will offer 50,000 free scholarships in artificial intelligence and cloud computing before 2028, expanding access to digital skills as businesses increasingly adopt AI-based technologies.

The program, called AWS Entrena República Dominicana, was announced by Paula Bellizia, AWS vice president for Latin America, during the opening of the seventh edition of Hub Cámara Santo Domingo 2026, an event attended by President Luis Abinader. The initiative brings together AWS, government institutions and private-sector organizations to support technology training across the country.

Who Can Apply For The Program

The scholarships will be available online at no cost to Dominicans over 18. Students, professionals, entrepreneurs, startups and small and medium-sized businesses are among the groups specifically identified as potential participants.

Training will focus on artificial intelligence and cloud computing, two areas increasingly connected to the digital transformation of businesses and organizations. By making the courses free and online, the initiative is designed to broaden access to specialized training while helping more people develop skills relevant to the digital economy.

The program involves several Dominican institutions, including Cámara Santo Domingo, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Administration, Banco de Reservas, the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (Ogtic), INFOTEP and the National School of the Judiciary.

A Push To Expand Digital Talent

Bellizia highlighted the cooperation between AWS and the Dominican government as an example of public-private coordination aimed at accelerating technology adoption. She also emphasized the role of workforce preparation in strengthening the country’s competitiveness, productivity and capacity for innovation.

The 50,000-person target is part of a broader AWS commitment to reach 2 million people across Latin America through technology training programs during the same period. In the Dominican Republic, the initiative places particular emphasis on building a larger pool of workers and entrepreneurs with skills in technologies that are increasingly used by companies.

For students and professionals, the program offers a route into technical training without tuition costs. For startups and smaller companies, access to workers familiar with AI and cloud technologies could support the development and adoption of digital tools as those businesses expand their operations.

AI Is Already Changing Business Operations

During her keynote presentation, Bellizia argued that artificial intelligence has moved beyond being a future-oriented concept and is already changing how organizations operate, including in the Dominican Republic.

She cited figures showing the pace of adoption in the region. According to data presented during the conference, 76% of companies in Central America and the Caribbean use generative AI chatbots and digital assistants, while 13% already use AI agents in strategic areas with dedicated budgets.

Bellizia also said that 26% of organizations in Latin America report generating economic value from artificial intelligence. The figures point to a growing connection between AI adoption and business performance, while also underscoring the need for workers with the skills to implement and manage these technologies.

AWS Entrena República Dominicana therefore combines technology adoption with workforce development. The initiative is expected to give thousands of Dominicans access to training in AI and cloud computing as companies and institutions continue to incorporate digital technologies into their operations.
