Dominican Migration Agency Upgrades Digital System to Enhance Border Security
The Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Migration has introduced a new version of its DOM-02 digital platform, improving passport verification, strengthening identity checks, and streamlining administrative procedures for travelers and users.
The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) has upgraded its DOM-02 information system as part of an effort to modernize migration inspections and administrative services. According to the agency, the update is designed to provide faster, more secure, and better-organized services while improving operational efficiency.
The enhanced platform introduces new tools that help migration officers verify travelers’ identities more accurately by comparing the passport photograph with the biometric image stored in the document’s electronic chip. The agency said this process improves the reliability of identity verification, reduces the risk of impersonation, and minimizes errors during document validation.
Advanced Passport Authentication
The updated system also displays passport images captured under natural, infrared, and ultraviolet light on a single screen. This multispectral analysis allows inspectors to examine the document’s security features more effectively and detect potential alterations or fraudulent documents.
In addition, the platform preserves travelers’ photographic records, enabling immigration officers to compare current inspections with previous records when necessary. According to the DGM, this feature strengthens identity verification while making inspections more efficient and easier to interpret.
Improved Administrative Services
Beyond border inspections, the modernization also extends to the agency’s administrative operations. The DGM said the upgraded system simplifies payment processing and standardizes registration procedures, making services more flexible and improving internal controls.
The institution stated that these technological improvements are intended to enhance the user experience while reinforcing the security and efficiency of the Dominican Republic’s migration management system.
