Romeo Santos Launches Foundation To Support Children With Autism
Dominican-born bachata star Romeo Santos has announced the creation of Fundación Los Santos, an initiative focused on supporting children with autism and their families through educational resources, community programs and partnerships.
Romeo Santos, the Dominican-born singer known as the “King of Bachata”, has announced the creation of Fundación Los Santos, a new initiative aimed at expanding educational resources and support services for children with autism and their families.
The foundation was created from Santos’ personal experience as the father of a child with autism. Its initial plans include resource centers for families, educational and social-development programs, grants and partnerships with schools and community organizations.
A Personal Motivation Behind The Foundation
Santos said the initiative reflects his firsthand understanding of the challenges faced by families raising children with autism. The singer, who rose to international prominence as the lead vocalist of Aventura before pursuing a successful solo career, said he had considered creating a foundation for years.
“This foundation is deeply personal to me,” Santos said.
The organization is intended to extend support beyond individual assistance by building relationships with other organizations and creating programs that can provide families with access to information, educational opportunities and community resources.
Education And Family Resources Among Initial Priorities
Fundación Los Santos plans to provide grants and establish partnerships with organizations working in education, social development and autism support. The initial priorities include family resource centers and programs designed to support children’s development.
The foundation also plans to collaborate with schools and community organizations. That approach could allow its programs to reach families through existing educational and community networks rather than operating exclusively through the foundation itself.
In addition to its institutional partnerships, the organization plans to hold private gatherings involving individuals and leaders interested in supporting its mission. Santos will also make a personal contribution to help fund the foundation’s programs and projects.
Autism Support Remains A Growing Need
The foundation’s launch comes as autism identification has increased in the United States and demand for educational and family support services remains significant. The latest surveillance data from the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network (ADDM), operated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, estimated that one in 31 eight-year-old children had been identified with autism in the 2022 surveillance year.
Those figures are based on U.S. surveillance data and do not represent autism prevalence in the Dominican Republic or other countries. They nevertheless illustrate the scale of the support needs surrounding autism and the importance of access to educational and family resources.
For Fundación Los Santos, the initial focus is on creating practical support systems for children and families while building partnerships that can expand the reach of its programs. The initiative adds a philanthropic dimension to Santos’ public profile, connecting his personal experience with a broader effort to support families affected by autism.
