Yo Soy Mozart, an international stage production built around the life and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will arrive in the Dominican Republic for the first time on November 6 and 7, with performances scheduled for 8 p.m. at Casa San Pablo in Santo Domingo.

Produced by Edith Smester and Proyes, the approximately one-hour show is designed to introduce audiences to classical music through a combination of live performance, acting, humor and interactive activities. Rather than presenting Mozart’s work solely as a concert, the production invites children and adults to participate throughout the experience.

A Different Approach to Mozart

The production was created and is performed by Argentine pianist, orchestra conductor, actor and educator Axel García Stur. Based in Paris, García Stur also directs the Conservatoire Claude Debussy, bringing together his musical and educational experience in a format intended to make classical music more accessible to new audiences.

According to the production team, Yo Soy Mozart has already been presented more than 2,000 times across Latin America and Europe. Its approach combines elements of Mozart’s life with games and activities inspired by his era, while introducing participants to basic concepts of musical language.

The format is aimed particularly at children, families and educational communities, offering an introduction to classical music that goes beyond passive listening. Audience members are encouraged to sing, respond, play and take part in activities during the performance.

Music and Education on the Same Stage

Smester, who has more than 25 years of experience producing corporate and large-scale events, said the Dominican presentation reflects an interest in expanding access to experiences that connect culture and education, particularly for children and families.

García Stur described the production as an interactive experience in which the audience helps shape the presentation rather than simply watching from their seats. That approach places education alongside entertainment and uses live performance as a way to introduce younger audiences to the classical repertoire.

For Dominican families, the two performances provide an opportunity to encounter one of the best-known figures in Western classical music through a format that combines theater and musical education. The presentation also reflects the broader role of cultural programming in creating accessible entry points into classical music for audiences who may have little previous exposure to the genre, while forming part of the cultural developments regularly covered in Dominican Republic news.

The Dominican Republic performances of Yo Soy Mozart are scheduled for November 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. at Casa San Pablo, marking the production’s first presentation in the country.
