Dominican Republic And Honduras Seek Stronger Trade And Investment Ties

The Dominican Republic and Honduras are seeking to deepen their economic relationship through a new round of business discussions focused on trade, investment and tourism, bringing together public officials and private-sector representatives from both countries in Tegucigalpa.

The fourth edition of the Business Forum on Exports, Imports, Investment and Tourism was held at the headquarters of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), with the Dominican Embassy in Honduras serving as the event’s sponsor. The meeting was organized within the framework of the bilateral agenda promoted by Presidents Luis Abinader and Nasry Asfura.

Trade And Investment At The Center Of The Meeting

The forum brought together representatives from government institutions, business organizations and companies interested in expanding commercial ties between the two Caribbean and Central American economies. Discussions focused on identifying new markets, increasing bilateral trade and creating conditions for additional investment.

The Dominican delegation included government representatives Andrés Lugo, Zanony Severino, Mérido Torres, Welinton Grullón and David Herrera, along with more than 24 Dominican businesspeople representing sectors that included rum, real estate, auto parts, vehicles, jewelry and clothing.

One of the main areas discussed was the current trade relationship between the two countries. Participants examined the bilateral trade balance, potential niches for exports and imports, and ways to simplify logistical procedures that can affect the movement of goods between markets.

Investment And Tourism Opportunities

Investment attraction formed another major component of the agenda. Participants discussed incentive frameworks, public-private partnerships and foreign direct investment as tools for developing projects with potential benefits for both economies.

Tourism was also included as a strategic area for cooperation, with discussions centered on investment in tourism infrastructure and the exchange of experience between the Dominican tourism and hotel industries and the Honduran market.

For the Dominican Republic, whose tourism sector has become an important source of economic activity, sharing experience in tourism development can also create opportunities for companies operating in hospitality, real estate, transportation and related services to explore partnerships beyond the domestic market.

Business Meetings Lead To Commercial Transactions

The forum included representatives from the foreign ministries, tourism authorities and industry and commerce institutions of both countries, as well as business chambers and private-sector delegations.

Business meetings were designed to move the discussions beyond institutional dialogue and toward specific commercial opportunities. According to the information presented about the event, participating companies concluded important commercial transactions during the business meetings.

The involvement of organizations such as the Honduran Council of Private Enterprise (COHEP) and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, together with CABEI’s institutional support and facilities, provided a framework for connecting companies with government and financial-sector representatives.

A Follow-Up Agenda For Bilateral Business

The meeting also produced a follow-up agenda aimed at advancing joint investment projects and increasing bilateral trade. The participating authorities and business representatives agreed to continue working through technical discussions while making greater use of existing agreements and the region’s logistical advantages.

The approach reflects an effort to turn bilateral economic relations into a more sustained business relationship, rather than limiting cooperation to individual trade missions or isolated commercial meetings.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from representatives of both countries to continue the technical working groups and pursue opportunities identified during the forum. The objective is to strengthen Honduras and the Dominican Republic as strategic commercial partners within the broader Central American and Caribbean region.
