Apple Sets September 9 Event For New iPhone Lineup

Apple will hold its annual September product event on September 9 at Apple Park, marking the company's first major launch under incoming CEO John Ternus and potentially introducing its first foldable iPhone.

Apple has scheduled its next major product launch for September 9, when the company will unveil its latest devices at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park, Cupertino. The event will carry the theme “Surprise and shine” and will be streamed live through Apple’s online platforms.

The presentation will come just eight days after John Ternus takes over as Apple’s chief executive on September 1. Ternus, previously the company’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, will succeed Tim Cook, who will become executive chairman of Apple’s board. Apple announced the leadership transition in April as the result of a long-term succession process.

A New Era Begins With Apple’s Biggest Product Event

The September presentation will be closely watched not only for the products announced but also because it will establish the tone of Ternus’ tenure as CEO. His previous role placed him at the center of Apple’s hardware development, including work on materials, durability, product design and repairability.

Apple has officially confirmed the date, location and event theme, but has not disclosed which products will be introduced. The company says the event will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on September 9, with viewers able to watch through Apple’s website, Apple TV or YouTube Live.

Foldable iPhone Could Be Apple’s Biggest Announcement

The most significant expected announcement is Apple’s long-rumored entry into the foldable smartphone market. Reuters reported that the company is expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone, potentially giving Apple a new premium product category as it competes more directly with Samsung in the foldable market.

Reports about the device have pointed to a wide, book-style design comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line. Reuters reported that analysts expect a screen size similar to the iPad mini, although Apple has not confirmed the design or specifications.

The potential launch would represent a significant expansion of Apple’s iPhone strategy. Foldable phones remain a smaller segment of the global smartphone market, but Apple entering the category could accelerate adoption and intensify competition among premium device manufacturers.

What Else Could Apple Announce?

Industry reports also point to updated iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models as likely products for the September event. However, reports differ over Apple’s plans for the standard iPhone 18, with some suggesting that the base model could arrive at a later event rather than alongside the Pro versions.

The uncertainty is typical of Apple’s pre-launch cycle because the company traditionally keeps product details confidential until its presentations. As a result, features, prices, availability and the final product lineup should be treated as unconfirmed until Apple makes its announcements.

The company’s most recent September event, held in 2025, introduced the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air, alongside new Apple Watch and AirPods products. Apple’s official event archive confirms those announcements and illustrates the range of products the company has previously introduced during its September launches.

For the 2026 event, the combination of a new CEO, a new iPhone generation and the possibility of Apple’s first foldable phone gives the September presentation unusual importance for the company’s hardware strategy.
