Arajet To Launch Direct Montevideo–Punta Cana Flights
Dominican airline Arajet will launch three weekly nonstop flights between Montevideo and Punta Cana in March 2027, creating a new direct air link between Uruguay and the Dominican Republic.
Travelers between Uruguay and the Dominican Republic will gain a new direct air connection in March 2027, when Dominican airline Arajet begins operating flights between Montevideo and Punta Cana three times a week.
The new route was presented Tuesday in Montevideo by Uruguay’s Ministry of Tourism, which described the connection as an opportunity to strengthen tourism exchanges between the two countries while giving travelers greater access to their respective destinations.
Three Weekly Flights Will Connect Montevideo And Punta Cana
The new service will operate on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, providing three weekly frequencies between Uruguay’s capital and Punta Cana, one of the Dominican Republic’s main international tourism destinations.
The direct connection is expected to make travel between the two markets more convenient by eliminating the need for connecting flights. For Uruguayan travelers, Punta Cana provides access to the Dominican Republic’s Caribbean beaches and resort areas, while the new route also creates a more direct gateway for Dominican visitors heading to Uruguay.
Uruguay Sees Opportunity To Expand Tourism Exchange
Uruguay’s Tourism Minister Pablo Menoni said the route would help deepen tourism exchanges between the two countries and promote Uruguay’s tourism offering in new markets.
Menoni highlighted the diversity of Uruguay’s destinations and said the country can complement the Dominican Republic’s established beach tourism offer with its own natural landscapes and experiences. He specifically pointed to opportunities to develop rural and nature-based tourism as well as gastronomy.
The minister also emphasized the strategic importance of improving Uruguay’s international air connectivity. Greater connectivity, he said, creates additional opportunities for the country’s tourism sector to expand.
Air Connectivity Strengthens Links Between Both Markets
Matías Carluccio, commercial manager of Aeropuertos Uruguay, also highlighted the importance of maintaining and expanding the country’s international connections. He credited cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism, the airport operator and other stakeholders with helping bring Arajet to Uruguay.
For Punta Cana, the new route adds another South American origin market to its international network. Punta Cana International Airport serves the country’s largest concentration of resort destinations and is a major entry point for international visitors to the Dominican Republic.
The launch in March 2027 will therefore provide a new travel option for passengers between the two countries while supporting broader efforts to strengthen tourism connectivity across Latin America and the Caribbean.
