Visa And Duty Free Americas Expand Traveler Benefits

Visa and Duty Free Americas (DFA) have renewed their partnership for a fourth consecutive year, expanding a program that provides special benefits to Visa cardholders at selected airports and border crossings across Central America and the Caribbean.

The agreement includes Punta Cana International Airport, one of the Dominican Republic’s main international gateways, where eligible Visa cardholders can access the benefits in participating DFA stores for both departures and arrivals. The expanded program also covers Terminals 1 and 2 at Tocumen International Airport in Panama and DFA’s Paso Canoas location on the Panama-Costa Rica border.

Discounts For Visa Cardholders

Under the renewed agreement, Visa credit, debit and prepaid cardholders issued anywhere in the world can receive a 10% discount on purchases of more than US$200 at participating Duty Free Americas stores.

The offer covers a broad range of travel retail products, including cosmetics, fragrances, fashion, jewelry, wine and spirits, food, gifts and other merchandise. Additional benefits are also available at participating restaurants and bars operated by DFA.

The specific benefits vary by location and may be updated periodically. This allows the program to adapt its offers across the different airports and border facilities included in the agreement.

Punta Cana Remains A Key Location

The inclusion of Punta Cana gives the partnership particular relevance for travelers visiting the Dominican Republic. DFA has operated duty-free retail at Punta Cana International Airport since 2009, according to the company, and identifies the airport as the country’s busiest international gateway.

For international travelers, the program places shopping and dining benefits within the airport experience on both sides of a trip. That is particularly relevant at Punta Cana, where the large volume of international leisure traffic creates a significant market for travel retail.

DFA’s broader network also includes Tocumen International Airport in Panama, which the company says it has operated at since 2017, as well as border retail locations serving travelers moving between Central American countries.

Partnership Expands Beyond Airports

The fourth renewal also marks an expansion of the program into border stores. According to DFA, this is the first time the partnership has extended its benefits to its border locations, broadening access beyond traditional airport duty-free retail.

Visa’s regional cross-border business team said the collaboration is intended to connect cardholders with benefits at strategic points throughout the travel ecosystem. For DFA, the expansion provides another way to strengthen its offering for travelers moving through airports and land borders.

The partnership reflects the growing role of payment networks and travel retailers in shaping the international travel experience. By combining payment benefits with airport and border retail, the two companies are seeking to provide additional value to travelers while strengthening their presence at major regional gateways.
