Dominican Republic and Azerbaijan Sign 90-Day Visa Waiver Deal

The Dominican Republic and Azerbaijan have agreed to remove visa requirements for holders of valid ordinary passports, opening a new channel for travel between the Caribbean nation and the South Caucasus country. The agreement was signed in New York during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Under the arrangement, eligible citizens can enter, leave, transit through and remain in the other country without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The measure is intended to facilitate movement between the two countries and support broader bilateral relations.

Agreement Covers Ordinary Passport Holders

The agreement was signed by Dominican Foreign Minister Víctor “Ito” Bisonó and Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. It applies to nationals holding valid ordinary passports from either country.

The visa exemption removes a procedural requirement for short stays while preserving the 90-day limit within a rolling 180-day period. The arrangement therefore provides greater flexibility for eligible travelers while defining a clear maximum period of visa-free stay.

For travelers, the agreement creates a simpler framework for short visits between the Dominican Republic and Azerbaijan. It may also facilitate contacts involving business, tourism and other forms of bilateral exchange.

Countries Establish Political Consultation Mechanism

Alongside the visa agreement, Bisonó and Bayramov signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations. The mechanism is intended to strengthen dialogue between the two governments and provide a framework for exchanging views on international and regional issues of common interest.

The two foreign ministers subsequently held a bilateral meeting to review relations between their countries and discuss opportunities to expand political, economic and commercial ties. They also examined potential areas for additional cooperation.

Focus on Trade, Investment and Tourism

The agreements form part of the Dominican government’s efforts to broaden its international relationships and develop connections with additional markets. The approach includes expanding opportunities for trade and investment while seeking greater cooperation in areas such as tourism.

The visa waiver is particularly relevant to people traveling between the two countries, while the political consultations provide an institutional channel for continued bilateral dialogue. Together, the agreements establish practical and diplomatic mechanisms for developing relations between the Dominican Republic and Azerbaijan.
