PRM Maintains Strong Lead in Dominican Party Support Poll
The governing Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) remains the Dominican Republic's most popular political organization, according to a new national survey that places it more than 22 percentage points ahead of its closest rival while highlighting a significant bloc of voters with no party affiliation.
A new National Public Opinion Survey conducted by the Centro Económico del Cibao found that the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) continues to lead political party preferences in the Dominican Republic, receiving 41.1% support among respondents.
The survey, carried out between July 31 and August 2, 2026, places the ruling party comfortably ahead of the country’s main opposition groups. The People’s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo) received 18.5% support, while the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) was backed by 12.9% of those surveyed.
Wide Gap Between the Top Parties
The results show the PRM holding a lead of more than 22 percentage points over the second-place People’s Force, underscoring the governing party’s dominant position in the current political landscape.
Journalist Roberto Cavada, commenting on the findings, said maintaining support above 40% after six years in office represents a positive result for the governing party, noting that political organizations typically experience declining popularity after extended periods in power. He also suggested the figures point to a loyal core of party members and supporters.
Large Share of Unaligned Voters
The survey also identified a substantial portion of the electorate that does not currently identify with any political party. According to the poll, 22.7% of respondents said they do not support any party, while an additional 2.0% were undecided or did not know which organization they favored.
Cavada described this group as the key electoral battleground in the coming years, arguing that political parties will need to present credible proposals and maintain genuine communication with voters if they hope to expand their support among citizens who currently remain outside the traditional party system.
Survey Methodology
According to the technical details released with the study, the survey was based on 1,400 face-to-face interviews conducted with adults aged 18 and older across the Dominican Republic. The sample was selected using a probabilistic methodology with random household and respondent selection.
The poll reports a 95% confidence level and a national margin of error of ±2.6 percentage points. Overall, the findings portray a political environment in which the PRM retains a clear advantage, while both governing and opposition parties continue to compete for the large segment of voters who remain unaffiliated with any political organization.
