US Calls on Latin America to Boost Defense and Security Investments

U.S. officials have called on countries across Latin America to expand their investments in defense and security, emphasizing that greater regional commitment is essential to confront evolving security challenges and strengthen cooperation throughout the Western Hemisphere.
The appeal was made during a meeting with representatives from Latin American nations, where discussions focused on military cooperation, combating transnational organized crime, counter-narcotics efforts, cybersecurity, and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Strengthening Regional Security Capabilities
According to the U.S. position presented during the meeting, the current international environment requires countries in the region to develop stronger defense and security capabilities to respond effectively to increasingly complex threats.
Officials said enhanced national military and security institutions would not only improve each country’s ability to protect its own territory but also contribute to a more stable and resilient regional security framework through joint operations and mutual assistance mechanisms.
