Dominican Republic Begins RD$137 Million Baní Beachfront Renovation
Construction has begun on a major redevelopment of Los Almendros Beach and Baní's waterfront, a government-backed project designed to improve public spaces, strengthen tourism, and support economic activity in Peravia province.
Tourism Minister David Collado has officially launched construction on the redevelopment of Los Almendros Beach and the Baní waterfront, a project valued at RD$136,956,834 that aims to enhance tourism infrastructure and stimulate economic growth in Peravia Province, in the southern Dominican Republic.
The initiative will be carried out by the Executive Committee for Tourism Infrastructure in Tourist Areas (CEIZTUR), an agency of the Ministry of Tourism responsible for developing and upgrading tourism infrastructure across the country. The project responds to a long-standing request from local residents and forms part of the ministry’s broader strategy to restore public spaces and coastal areas.
Comprehensive Upgrade for Baní’s Waterfront
The redevelopment will cover approximately 9,978 square meters and include new public plazas, terraces, commercial kiosks, urban furniture, recreational areas, paved walkways, sanitary and electrical infrastructure, landscaped green spaces, and environmental restoration measures.
Additional facilities will feature parking areas, service buildings for electrical systems, security and solid waste management infrastructure, picnic tables, children’s playgrounds, outdoor fitness equipment, public restrooms, and emergency response facilities. The improvements are intended to create a safer, more functional, and more attractive waterfront for both residents and visitors.
Tourism and Economic Development
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Collado said the project would represent a significant milestone for Baní’s tourism sector while generating broader economic benefits for the province.
“Today we are launching works on an intervention that will mark a before and after for tourism in Baní,” the minister said.
He added that recovering public spaces and coastal zones remains a key element of the Ministry of Tourism’s strategy to create orderly, secure, and welcoming destinations that improve quality of life for local communities while enhancing the visitor experience.
The ceremony was attended by municipal and provincial authorities, along with representatives of the local tourism industry, reflecting broad institutional support for the project.
