Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata is expanding its international network through additional airline services and new seasonal routes, further improving access to the Dominican Republic’s northern tourism region.

Aerodom, which operates the airport as part of the Vinci Airports network, announced that Copa Airlines has permanently increased its service between Panama City and Puerto Plata from three to four weekly flights. The additional frequency enhances connections through Copa’s Panama hub, giving travelers from across Latin America easier access to Puerto Plata.

New Canadian Routes for the Winter Season

For the upcoming winter travel season, Puerto Plata will also welcome two new seasonal services from Canada. Air Transat will begin operating a weekly flight from London, Ontario, starting on December 15, while WestJet will introduce a weekly seasonal service from Winnipeg on the same date, expanding direct travel options for Canadian visitors.

Canada remains one of the Dominican Republic’s most important international tourism markets, and the additional routes are expected to improve accessibility for travelers seeking direct access to Puerto Plata’s beaches, resorts, and nearby attractions throughout the peak winter season.

Improved Connectivity for Tourism

The expanded schedule reflects continued airline investment in Puerto Plata as a Caribbean destination. Increased service from Panama strengthens links with Copa Airlines’ extensive network across the Americas, while the new Canadian flights provide more nonstop options from key regional markets during the busiest period for leisure travel.

Award-Winning Airport

Aerodom also highlighted the service quality of Gregorio Luperón International Airport, which has earned the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award from the Airports Council International (ACI) on four occasions. Most recently, the airport received the 2025 award as the best airport in Latin America and the Caribbean among facilities handling up to two million passengers annually.

The combination of expanded airline services and internationally recognized passenger experience reinforces Puerto Plata’s position as one of the Dominican Republic’s principal gateways for international tourism, particularly during the winter travel season.
