Puerto Plata’s tourism industry has gained a new adventure-oriented attraction with the opening of Sunland Buggy in Maimón, a coastal community in the province. The operation offers guided buggy excursions and additional services for visitors, adding another option for travelers seeking outdoor activities alongside the destination’s established tourism offerings.

The business was founded by local entrepreneurs Ángel Hurtado and Joel Silverio, who joined forces to develop a venture in the community where they grew up. Their project combines visitor experiences with plans to generate employment and contribute to economic activity in Maimón.

Buggy excursions and services for visitors

Sunland Buggy’s main activity is guided buggy excursions, complemented by a range of on-site services designed to serve tourists. These include a café, a shop selling items and souvenirs, and photography services, giving visitors access to several offerings in one location.

The business is scheduled to operate seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This daily schedule provides a broad window for visitors to access its services, although excursion prices, booking procedures, route details and specific tour durations have not been disclosed.

Local employment and tourism development

The project also anticipates employment opportunities in several areas, including tour guiding, reception, photography, mechanics, administration and general services. The range of roles reflects the operational needs of an adventure tourism business, extending potential job opportunities beyond the excursions themselves.

Silverio, the company’s manager and owner, said the venture grew out of a longstanding relationship between the partners and their shared interest in investing in their hometown. He described the project as an effort to create opportunities for local residents while contributing to Maimón’s tourism development.

Hurtado said the partners intend to strengthen the community’s appeal to visitors, provide memorable experiences and support employment. Both entrepreneurs have positioned the business as a locally driven initiative connected to the broader development of Puerto Plata as a tourism destination.

A new option for travelers visiting Puerto Plata

For travelers exploring Puerto Plata, Sunland Buggy adds an adventure-focused activity to the range of experiences available in the province. Its combination of guided excursions, food and beverage services, souvenirs and photography may appeal to visitors looking to incorporate outdoor activities into their stay.

The project’s longer-term contribution to the local economy will depend on visitor demand and the jobs ultimately created. For now, its opening represents a new private-sector initiative in Maimón, linking tourism services with local entrepreneurship and employment ambitions.
