Dominican Fuel Prices Rise for Gasoline and Diesel
Gasoline and diesel prices will increase in the Dominican Republic from August 8 to 14, while four other fuels become cheaper under a government adjustment linked to higher international refining costs.
Fuel prices in the Dominican Republic will change for the week of August 8 to 14, with increases for both grades of gasoline and diesel and reductions for four other petroleum products. The adjustment reflects higher international refining costs despite movements in the price of crude oil.
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the government agency responsible for overseeing commerce and industrial policy, said premium gasoline and optimal diesel will each rise by RD$3 per gallon. Regular gasoline and regular diesel will increase by RD$2.
Gasoline and Diesel Prices Increase
Premium gasoline will sell for RD$341.10 per gallon, while regular gasoline will cost RD$304.50. Regular diesel will rise to RD$256.80 per gallon, and optimal diesel will reach RD$293.10.
The MICM attributed the increases to a sharp rise in international refining costs. Since the start of the international conflict affecting energy markets, the processing cost of refined products has increased by 95% for premium gasoline and 131% for optimal diesel, according to the ministry.
The difference between the price of crude oil and the cost of turning it into finished fuel is known in energy markets as the crack spread. Changes in this margin can push retail fuel prices higher even when crude oil itself becomes cheaper.
Four Fuels Become Cheaper
The weekly adjustment also includes significant reductions for four fuels. Avtur, used primarily in aviation, will fall by RD$10.77 to RD$281.50 per gallon. Kerosene will decrease by RD$11.50 to RD$319.50.
Fuel Oil #6 will drop by RD$11.41 to RD$158.18 per gallon, while Fuel Oil 1%S will decline by RD$7.12 to RD$192.65. The reductions partly offset the increases affecting motorists and businesses that rely on gasoline and diesel.
LPG Price Remains Frozen
The government will keep liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at RD$135.20 per gallon. The MICM said maintaining the price is intended to limit the impact of international fuel-cost changes on household purchasing power, particularly among more vulnerable families.
Natural gas will also remain unchanged at RD$43.97 per cubic meter. The government said it has allocated more than RD$25 billion to a fuel stabilization fund used to cushion consumers from international price fluctuations.

Premium gasoline: RD$341.10 per gallon, up RD$3.00.
Regular gasoline: RD$304.50 per gallon, up RD$2.00.
Regular diesel: RD$256.80 per gallon, up RD$2.00.
Optimal diesel: RD$293.10 per gallon, up RD$3.00.
Avtur: RD$281.50 per gallon, down RD$10.77.
Kerosene: RD$319.50 per gallon, down RD$11.50.
Fuel Oil #6: RD$158.18 per gallon, down RD$11.41.
Fuel Oil 1%S: RD$192.65 per gallon, down RD$7.12.
LPG: RD$135.20 per gallon, unchanged.
Natural gas: RD$43.97 per cubic meter, unchanged.
The price calculation was based on an average weekly exchange rate of RD$58.60 per US dollar, using figures published by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic. The government said it opted for moderate adjustments rather than passing the full increase in international costs on to consumers, citing the potential pressure on public finances.
