American Horror Story Season 13 Brings Back Iconic Characters

American Horror Story Season 13 will take the FX anthology into previously unexplored territory when it premieres on Disney+ in Latin America on September 24. The new installment will open with three episodes and bring together characters and elements from several of the show’s most recognizable seasons.

Created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the series has traditionally used each season to tell a largely independent horror story. The 13th installment will instead lean heavily into connections established throughout the franchise, bringing together figures who originally belonged to separate narratives.

A Crossover Across American Horror Story

The promotional material has confirmed the return of characters including Constance Langdon, Cordelia Goode, Madison Montgomery, Marie Laveau, Rubber Man, Twisty the Clown and Kai Anderson. Their origins span several seasons, including Murder House, Coven, Freak Show and Cult.

The concept turns the anthology’s long history into part of the story itself. Characters who were previously separated by different settings and timelines will now share the same narrative, while some actors are expected to portray more than one character within the same scene.

Murphy has described the season as a “love letter” to the show’s fans, particularly those who have remained attached to earlier installments such as Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show and Cult. The new season is expected to draw directly on that history rather than simply referencing it from a distance.

Jessica Lange Leads a Major Cast Return

One of the most prominent returning stars is Jessica Lange, whose presence was central to the first four seasons of American Horror Story before she later returned to the franchise. Her comeback is among the most significant elements of the season’s promotion.

The ensemble also includes Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman and Joey Pollari. Bassett is again associated with Marie Laveau, while Roberts returns as Madison Montgomery.

The wider cast includes Avantika, Jamie Brewer, Elle Chapman, Berto Colon, Alex Consani, Frances Conroy, Mat Fraser, Seth Gabel, Orlando Jones, Paul Anthony Kelly, John Carroll Lynch, Tig Notaro, Madelaine Petsch, Fedor Steer, Mena Suvari, Zach Villa and John Waters.

The Story Remains Under Wraps

Despite the number of returning characters, the central plot has largely been kept secret. The promotional material establishes that different parts of the American Horror Story universe will intersect, but it does not fully explain what brings the characters together or what event drives the new storyline.

That secrecy is particularly significant for a series built around an anthology format. Earlier seasons generally allowed viewers to enter a new setting and meet a new group of characters without needing extensive knowledge of previous installments. Season 13 will make familiarity with the franchise more relevant by turning its accumulated mythology into a central element.

Disney+ Release Schedule

The new season will consist of 13 half-hour episodes. Three episodes will be released on September 24 in Latin America, followed by another three the following week. The remaining episodes will then arrive in pairs before the 13th and final episode on October 30, just ahead of Halloween.

That release strategy gives the season a faster opening than a traditional weekly rollout and allows the story to progress rapidly during its first weeks. It also places the finale close to Halloween, a fitting point on the calendar for one of television’s longest-running horror anthologies.

All 12 previous seasons of American Horror Story are available on Disney+, giving viewers an opportunity to revisit the stories and characters that will feed into the new crossover. The series has accumulated more than 100 Emmy nominations and has surpassed 700 million hours streamed worldwide, according to figures released alongside the announcement.

With its returning cast, interconnected characters and deliberately limited plot details, Season 13 represents a significant shift in how American Horror Story uses its anthology format. The premiere will begin revealing how those separate stories fit together, while the October 30 finale is set to complete the franchise’s latest chapter shortly before Halloween.
