Dominican Republic Eases ID Card Renewal Rules in Smaller Municipalities
The Dominican Republic's Central Electoral Board (JCE) has expanded access to the national ID card renewal process by removing birth-month restrictions for residents of municipalities with 75,000 inhabitants or fewer, while also adding new renewal centers in Santiago.
The Central Electoral Board (JCE), the Dominican Republic’s authority responsible for civil registration and elections, announced that citizens living in municipalities with a population of 75,000 or fewer may now renew their national identity and voter identification card regardless of their birth month.
The measure is intended to make the renewal process more flexible and improve access to the service as part of the country’s nationwide ID card renewal program. According to the JCE, easing the scheduling restrictions is expected to improve the efficiency of the project while allowing more citizens to update their identification documents without waiting for their designated month.
Municipalities Where the Rule Does Not Apply
The birth-month restriction remains in effect at JCE offices serving larger municipalities. These include Azua, Bajos de Haina, Baní, Bonao, the National District, Higüey, La Romana, La Vega, Los Alcarrizos, Moca, Puerto Plata, San Cristóbal, San Francisco de Macorís, San Juan de la Maguana, San Pedro de Macorís, Santiago de los Caballeros, Santo Domingo East, Santo Domingo North, and Santo Domingo West.
Additional Renewal Centers in Santiago
The JCE also announced the addition of four ID card renewal centers in Santiago de los Caballeros: Cuesta Colorada, Colinas, Colinas Mall, and Las Carreras.
At these locations, residents born between January and the current month are eligible to renew their identity cards. The centers operate during regular business hours from Monday through Friday, while on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays they provide renewal services without any birth-month restrictions.
The changes are part of the JCE’s ongoing effort to facilitate the nationwide renewal of the Dominican identity and electoral card by expanding access and reducing scheduling limitations for eligible citizens.
