INTRANT Opens First Driver’s License Office in El Seibo

El Seibo, a province in the eastern Dominican Republic, now has its first driver’s license office following the inauguration of a new facility by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), the country’s road transport authority. The office is expected to improve access to licensing services for approximately 27,133 registered vehicle owners, according to the Dominican Republic’s 2025 Vehicle Fleet Report published by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII).

The new office eliminates the need for many residents to travel to other provinces to obtain or renew a driver’s license, reducing both travel time and costs while making public services more accessible. The facility will also serve nearby communities, including Miches, Pedro Sánchez, and surrounding areas.

Expanded Access to Driver Licensing Services

Milton Morrison, executive director of INTRANT, said the opening is part of the institution’s nationwide strategy to expand access to transportation services.

“Our commitment is to ensure citizens receive services that are increasingly accessible, efficient, and delivered to the highest quality standards. With this office, we continue reducing barriers to access while strengthening road safety across local communities,” Morrison said.

Located on El Seibo’s main avenue, the office has the capacity to issue up to 200 driver’s licenses per day. Services include license renewals, replacement licenses for lost or damaged documents, motorcycle license issuance, and licensing assistance for members of the National Police.

Comprehensive Services in One Location

The new facility is designed to complete the entire licensing process in a single visit. It includes user registration, digital signature and fingerprint capture, photographs, document printing and issuance, theoretical driving examinations, medical evaluations conducted by the Driver Medical Evaluation Center (CEMECO), and practical motorcycle driving tests.

The office will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, providing residents with a centralized location for essential licensing procedures.

Part of a National Expansion Strategy

The opening in El Seibo forms part of INTRANT’s broader effort to expand its network of driver’s license offices throughout the Dominican Republic. By bringing services closer to underserved communities, the agency aims to modernize public administration, support decentralized government services, and improve road safety through easier access to driver licensing across the country.
