Danilo Medina Challenges Abinader to Compare Government Results Province by Province

Former Dominican President Danilo Medina has challenged President Luis Abinader to compare their administrations’ achievements province by province, arguing that government performance should be measured against the public funds received and loans contracted. The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) leader also cited school construction and early childhood facilities in La Vega as examples of his party’s record in office.

Former Dominican President Danilo Medina has called comparisons between the current administration and previous governments “children’s arguments,” insisting that a meaningful assessment should examine public achievements across individual provinces.

Speaking at a gathering of members and supporters of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), one of the country’s main political parties, Medina said he wants President Luis Abinader’s administration to complete its eight-year term before the two governments’ records are compared.

Medina Calls for a Province-by-Province Assessment

“When we debate, I want to debate province by province,” Medina said, arguing that comparisons should be based on concrete results rather than broad political claims.

The former president was responding to assertions that the Abinader administration has completed more public works in six years than the PLD accomplished during two decades in government.

Medina argued that any assessment must also account for the financial resources available to each administration, including government revenue and loans contracted under the current administration.

He rejected the claim that the current government’s record surpasses that of the PLD, maintaining that his party’s achievements in school construction alone provide grounds for a detailed comparison.

Medina Cites School Construction in La Vega

As an example, Medina highlighted infrastructure projects completed during PLD administrations in La Vega province, in central Dominican Republic.

According to the former president, the projects included 61 schools, two polytechnic institutes, five childcare facilities and 13 early childhood care centers.

Medina presented these figures as evidence of his party’s record in education infrastructure. However, a comprehensive comparison would require examining the projects, their completion dates, funding and results alongside equivalent figures from the current administration.

PLD Gathering Held in Jarabacoa

Medina made the remarks during an assembly of PLD members, party leaders and supporters at the Andrés Dilonex Sports Center in the Balaguer neighborhood of Jarabacoa, a municipality in La Vega province.

The gathering formed part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its organization and bring new members into its ranks across the province.

His comments placed government performance, public investment and the use of borrowed funds at the center of the political debate between the former governing party and Abinader’s administration.

Medina’s proposed province-by-province comparison would provide a more detailed framework for evaluating the competing claims, provided that both administrations’ spending and infrastructure figures can be assessed using consistent criteria.
