Dominican Republic To Join Fuerzas Comando 2026 In Paraguay
Elite military personnel from the Dominican Republic and 20 other countries are expected to gather in Paraguay for Fuerzas Comando 2026, a multinational special operations competition organized by U.S. Southern Command.
The Dominican Republic will take part in Fuerzas Comando 2026, a multinational special operations competition scheduled to take place in Paraguay as military forces from across the Americas gather to test their skills and strengthen regional cooperation.
The event is scheduled for August 24-28, according to Paraguay’s Ministry of Defense, with highly trained military personnel participating in a series of activities designed to exchange knowledge, techniques and tactics for special operations.
Regional Forces Gather In Paraguay
Paraguay will host delegations from countries including Argentina, the Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, the Dominican Republic and the United States.
The competition is organized by U.S. Southern Command, the U.S. military command responsible for security cooperation and military engagement across Latin America and the Caribbean. Paraguayan authorities have described the event as an opportunity to strengthen trust and operational cooperation among participating countries.
Paraguayan Defense Minister Óscar Rodríguez said the exercise would bring together soldiers highly trained in several military disciplines. General César Moreno, commander of Paraguay’s Armed Forces, said the event would help deepen confidence and cooperation among countries in the region.
Focus On Special Operations And Common Threats
Beyond the competitive element, Fuerzas Comando is intended to improve the exchange of military knowledge and strengthen coordination for special operations. The Paraguayan Defense Ministry said the exercise will address regional security challenges including internal crises, organized crime and terrorism.
The competition is also designed to develop interoperability among participating forces. Such cooperation can be particularly relevant for threats that cross national borders, including organized criminal networks and other forms of transnational crime.
Recent editions of Fuerzas Comando have increasingly emphasized professional relationships, coordination and the ability of special operations forces from different countries to work together, alongside the physical and tactical challenges of the competition.
Paraguay Returns As Host
Paraguay was formally selected as the host of the 2026 edition during the closing ceremony of Fuerzas Comando 2025 in El Salvador. It has previously hosted the competition in 2006 and 2017.
The event follows Panamax 2026, a multinational military exercise held earlier in August and organized by Panama with the sponsorship of U.S. Southern Command. About 1,700 military personnel from roughly 20 countries participated in those maneuvers.
Paraguay’s role as host comes as its defense relationship with the United States continues to develop. The two countries signed a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) in December 2025, establishing a legal framework governing certain activities involving U.S. military personnel in Paraguay.
For the Dominican Republic, participation in Fuerzas Comando 2026 provides an opportunity for its military personnel to train alongside forces from across the Americas while exchanging operational practices in an exercise centered on regional security cooperation.
