The Moon’s shadow will instead sweep across parts of the Northern Hemisphere, creating a path of totality that crosses Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain, and a small area of Portugal. Thousands of skywatchers are expected to travel to these locations to witness the rare phenomenon, while a partial eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, northern Africa, and portions of North America.
No Eclipse Views Anywhere in the Dominican Republic
Major Dominican cities, including Santo Domingo, Santiago, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, and La Romana, will remain outside the eclipse’s visibility zone. As a result, observers across the country will experience normal daylight conditions on August 12, with no partial or total coverage of the Sun.
Although disappointing for local astronomy enthusiasts, the event highlights how eclipse visibility depends entirely on the precise alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth, as well as an observer’s geographic location. Even regions relatively close to the eclipse path may see little or no effect.
More Skywatching Opportunities Ahead
Residents of the Dominican Republic will not have to wait long for another notable celestial event. A partial lunar eclipse is expected during the night of August 27–28, 2026, offering an opportunity to observe the Moon partially entering Earth’s shadow.
Looking further ahead, the next solar eclipse visible from the Dominican Republic is expected on January 26, 2028. While it will not be a total eclipse, observers across the country should be able to witness it as a partial solar eclipse, providing another chance to experience one of astronomy’s most captivating events.
