Eury Pérez Outduels Paul Skenes as Marlins Win 2-0

Eury Pérez turned a marquee pitching matchup into a statement performance Tuesday, limiting the Pittsburgh Pirates to three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings as the Miami Marlins secured a 2-0 victory at loanDepot park.

The 23-year-old Dominican right-hander struck out seven and never allowed a Pittsburgh runner to advance beyond first base. The outing matched his season high of seven innings and lowered his ERA to 3.39, continuing a strong stretch in which he has posted a 1.94 ERA over his last 11 starts.

Pérez entered the game facing one of baseball’s most prominent young pitchers, Paul Skenes, but Miami’s starter controlled the duel from the outset. Skenes allowed two runs, one earned, over five innings before the Marlins’ pitching staff completed the shutout.

Ruiz Provides the Key Offensive Blow

Miami did not need a large offensive output behind Pérez. Esteury Ruiz supplied the biggest hit with a solo home run, while Jesús Sánchez drove in another run and Emmanuel Rivera scored on a wild pitch.

The combination of timely offense and dominant pitching gave the Marlins their third consecutive victory. Pete Fairbanks closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning for his 18th save.

The victory moved Miami to 61-59, keeping the Marlins in contention for a National League Wild Card position with the regular season entering its final stretch.

Angels Make Changes and Beat Rangers

Another Dominican pitcher also played a decisive role Tuesday. José Fermín earned the victory as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Texas Rangers 3-2 in Anaheim, ending a three-game losing streak.

Fermín worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to improve to 4-2. Samy Natera Jr. followed with a perfect ninth inning and recorded his third save, while Cody Bradford took the loss for Texas after allowing three runs over seven innings.

The Angels made significant changes to their pitching staff before the game, dismissing pitching coach Mike Maddux, bullpen coach Dom Chiti and assistant coach Darryl Scott. Tim Leveque was appointed interim pitching coach, with Michael Wuertz taking over the bullpen duties on an interim basis.

Los Angeles general manager John Mozeliak said the changes were intended to improve the team’s use of technology and available resources during the remaining 43 games of the season.

Dominican Pitching Adds to Tuesday’s MLB Results

Pérez’s performance stood out on a night when several games were decided by narrow margins across Major League Baseball. The Marlins’ shutout of Pittsburgh was one of several strong pitching-driven results, while the Angels held on for a one-run victory despite Texas cutting the deficit to 3-2.

For Pérez, the outing provided another important step in his return to a prominent role in Miami’s rotation. His seven scoreless innings against Skenes combined efficiency, command and run prevention, giving the Marlins another boost as they remain within reach of the National League postseason race.
