The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 at Camden Yards on Wednesday, with a disputed seventh-inning foul call involving Pete Alonso becoming a turning point in the game.

The New York Yankees secured a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Wednesday after a controversial seventh-inning play involving Pete Alonso became part of the game’s decisive sequence.

Alonso hit a fly ball toward left field that was initially ruled foul. The Yankees first baseman challenged the call, but a review did not provide enough evidence to overturn the decision, leaving the original ruling in place.

Yankees Take Control In The Seventh

New York capitalized on the opportunity later in the inning. With the bases loaded, George Lombard Jr. delivered a run-scoring single, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. subsequently scored when a wild pitch added another run to the Yankees’ total.

The rally helped the Yankees regain control after Baltimore had tied the game in the sixth inning. The sequence also gave New York the cushion it needed to protect its lead during the final stages of the contest.

Home Runs Put Both Teams On The Board

Ben Rice had earlier given New York the lead with his 34th home run of the season. Ryan McMahon also drove in a run with a single as the Yankees built their initial advantage.

Alonso contributed a home run of his own in the third inning, but Baltimore responded in the sixth when Dylan Beavers hit a home run against Fernando Cruz to bring the Orioles level.

Yankees Bullpen Protects The Lead

Will Warren worked four innings and was charged with two runs before New York’s bullpen took over. The relief corps held Baltimore in check through the remainder of the game, allowing the Yankees to preserve their two-run advantage.

The victory gave New York a strong finish to a game in which momentum shifted several times. The disputed Alonso play stood out because the review failed to provide conclusive evidence for a change, while the Yankees turned the ensuing situation into the decisive stretch of the night.
