Viva Miches to Host OCEANMAN World Final 2026 in the Dominican Republic
Viva Miches by Wyndham will serve as the host hotel for the OCEANMAN World Final Championship 2026, scheduled for November 9–15 in Miches, Dominican Republic. The event is expected to attract more than 4,000 swimmers and participants from over 100 countries, giving international visibility to the country’s growing sports tourism sector.
The Dominican Republic is preparing to welcome an international open-water swimming event as Miches gets ready to host the OCEANMAN World Final Championship 2026. Viva Miches by Wyndham has been selected as the official host hotel for the week-long gathering, with the main races scheduled for November 13–15.
The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Tourism is the event’s main sponsor. Organizers expect the championship to bring together athletes, families, teams and visitors from more than 100 countries, creating an opportunity to showcase Miches as a destination for sports, nature-based travel and wellness experiences.
International swimming competition comes to Miches
The championship will feature several race distances designed for different ages and experience levels. The program includes the 10-kilometer OCEANMAN race, the 5-kilometer Half OCEANMAN, a 2-kilometer Sprint, a 500-meter OceanKids event and OceanTeams relays covering three legs of 500 meters each. An elite competition will also feature prominent swimmers from the international rankings.
Beyond the races, the event is expected to include social activities and cultural experiences throughout the week. The combination of competition and destination activities gives visitors an opportunity to experience the area beyond the shoreline.
Viva Miches will accommodate athletes and visitors
Located on Playa Esmeralda along the Dominican Republic’s northeastern coast, Viva Miches by Wyndham is an all-inclusive beachfront resort with 535 rooms. The property offers five restaurants, a large swimming pool with a swim-up bar, daily activities and evening entertainment. Some room categories include private plunge pools.
The resort will provide accommodation, dining and recreational facilities for athletes and other guests attending the championship. Its location also gives visitors access to nearby attractions, including Los Haitises National Park, Laguna Limón and Montaña Redonda.
Viva Resorts by Wyndham Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Erika Sordo said the selection comes as the property approaches its second anniversary. She described the championship as an opportunity to support sports, wellness and active travel while raising Miches’ international profile.
Sports tourism could broaden Miches’ visitor appeal
Miches has been developing its tourism offering around coastal scenery, nature and new hotel infrastructure. Hosting an international competition could introduce the destination to travelers who might otherwise focus on more established Caribbean resort areas.
The event also brings together several tourism segments: accommodation, food and beverage, transportation, recreation and activities linked to the competition. The extent of its economic impact will depend on visitor spending, length of stay and participation during the event.
The resort has also reported sustainability initiatives, including support for sea turtle conservation through Protortuga, efforts to reduce waste, the use of solar energy and measures to eliminate single-use plastics.
The OCEANMAN World Final Championship will run from November 9 to 15, 2026, with races taking place November 13–15. Travelers can find registration information, race details and event updates through the official OCEANMAN website.
