Santo Domingo will host a guided urban cycling experience designed to combine physical activity, local history and sustainable tourism, taking participants along the capital’s waterfront and through two of its historic neighborhoods: Ciudad Nueva and the Colonial Zone.

The BiciTour Urbano initiative, organized by journalist Pedro Ángel through his RD es Bienestar project, is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday the 25th. Participants will depart from the Malecón at the corner of Núñez de Cáceres Avenue, opposite the Feria Ganadera, and return to the same meeting point at the end of the route.

A Cycling Route Along the Malecón and Historic Streets

The tour will begin with a ride beside the Caribbean Sea, using the cycling lane along Santo Domingo’s coastal avenue. One of the planned stops is the city’s iconic sign opposite the Banco Agrícola, offering participants an opportunity to pause and take in a familiar landmark of the capital.

From the waterfront, the group will continue into Ciudad Nueva and the Colonial Zone, where the guided route will focus on the history of local streets, houses and historic buildings. The experience is intended to help participants understand how the city’s urban landscape reflects its cultural heritage and everyday life.

The itinerary also includes a visit to Chinatown and a stop at a traditional neighborhood grocery store, known locally as a colmado, in the San Antón area. Another planned break will allow participants to sample frío-frío, a popular Dominican shaved-ice treat prepared by a local entrepreneur.

Local Knowledge at the Center of the Experience

Pedro Ángel will serve as the tour guide, drawing on his personal connection to Ciudad Nueva, where he grew up. He said his familiarity with the neighborhood’s streets and history would help participants discover details that may be overlooked during a conventional sightseeing trip.

The organizer explained that the initiative seeks to add positive activities to the calendar of Santo Domingo and the National District while encouraging residents to become more familiar with the history and culture of their own city.

By combining cycling with historical explanations and stops at local businesses, BiciTour Urbano aims to offer an alternative way to explore the capital beyond the usual tourist routes. The format also creates opportunities for participants to engage with the neighborhoods and their communities at a slower pace.

Registration, Cost and Bicycle Rentals

The activity is limited to 15 participants and requires a contribution of RD$200 per person. Interested participants can register through WhatsApp at 829-962-7586 or via Instagram at @eldivodelasalud.

People who do not own a bicycle can rent one from a business in the Colonial Zone. The organizers will provide information about rental options when participants complete their registration.

Because the group has a limited capacity and the route involves several stops, prospective participants should contact the organizer in advance to confirm availability and practical details for the ride.

RD es Bienestar Promotes Sustainable Tourism and Healthy Habits

BiciTour Urbano is part of RD es Bienestar, a project that promotes experiences related to sustainable tourism, cultural discovery and personal well-being. Through outdoor activities and recreational initiatives, the project encourages individuals and families to adopt healthier habits and explore their surroundings.

The initiative’s approach connects exercise with urban discovery, offering residents and visitors a way to experience Santo Domingo’s coastal landscape, historic districts and neighborhood traditions in a single outing.

For travelers interested in local culture, the route provides a more personal perspective on the Dominican capital. For residents, it offers an opportunity to rediscover familiar places through their history, architecture and everyday cultural practices.

Additional information about the project is available through Resumen de Salud at www.resumendesalud.net, which also maintains a presence on radio and television programs.
