Refinería Dominicana de Petróleo (REFIDOMSA) has successfully completed a scheduled maintenance and regeneration shutdown of its U-200 and U-300 processing units, a project designed to improve fuel quality, strengthen equipment reliability, and ensure the continued efficiency of the country’s only oil refinery.
The maintenance program ran from June 20 to July 2, 2026, during which technical teams completed more than 1,000 preventive and corrective maintenance activities. The project included work on 88 critical process units and accumulated approximately 50,000 work hours without recording any incidents or workplace accidents.
Key Processing Units Restored to Full Performance
According to REFIDOMSA, the successful regeneration of the U-200 and U-300 units enhances the quality of refined fuels while improving the mechanical integrity of critical equipment. The work is also expected to increase operational reliability and support uninterrupted refinery operations.
René González, REFIDOMSA’s Senior Manager of Civil Projects and Maintenance, said the maintenance shutdown achieved all of its planned objectives through careful preparation, coordinated execution, and the commitment of the multidisciplinary teams involved.
“We completed this shutdown with the satisfaction of achieving the goals we set. The regeneration of the U-200 and U-300 units strengthens the quality of our products and enables us to continue operating with facilities that are more reliable, safer, and more efficient to meet the country’s needs,” González said.
More Than 1,000 Technical Tasks Completed
The maintenance campaign included specialized inspections, component replacements, mechanical cleaning, and other interventions intended to preserve the mechanical integrity of refinery equipment and extend the operational lifespan of critical assets.
González also recognized the work carried out by the refinery’s Maintenance and Plant Shutdown teams, which planned and executed the project, as well as the Operations department, responsible for coordinating activities throughout the shutdown. He also highlighted the role of the Health, Safety and Environment division in maintaining strict safety controls during every stage of the operation.
Supporting Fuel Supply Reliability
With the completion of the scheduled shutdown, REFIDOMSA said it has further strengthened the reliability of its industrial facilities while optimizing overall plant performance. The company stated that these improvements support the responsible management of its industrial assets and help ensure a stable and reliable fuel supply for the Dominican market.
