ITA Airways To Launch Rome-Santo Domingo Route In November

ITA Airways will launch a new seasonal nonstop route connecting Rome Fiumicino with Santo Domingo on November 30, 2026, giving travelers between Italy and the Dominican Republic a direct option for the winter season.

The route will initially operate once a week on Mondays. A second weekly service, scheduled for Sundays, will be added from December 14 through the end of March 2027, according to the airline’s published schedule. The service will be operated with Airbus A330neo aircraft featuring Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

A New Direct Link Between Rome And Santo Domingo

The connection marks ITA Airways’ entry into the Dominican Republic and expands its intercontinental network in the Americas. Santo Domingo will become part of the airline’s seasonal long-haul network, providing a nonstop connection with Rome Fiumicino, one of Europe’s major aviation gateways.

For travelers, the route offers a direct alternative for reaching Santo Domingo from Italy without a connection in another European or American city. It also creates an additional link between the Dominican capital and Rome for visitors traveling in the opposite direction.

Service Will Increase To Two Weekly Flights

The first flight is scheduled for Monday, November 30. The airline will then add a Sunday frequency beginning December 14, bringing the service to two flights per week during the core winter period through the end of March 2027.

The aircraft assigned to the route will be the Airbus A330neo, a long-haul model configured by ITA Airways with three travel classes. The cabin layout will include Business, Premium Economy and Economy, giving passengers several options for the transatlantic journey.

Route Expands Dominican Republic’s Connections With Europe

The new service adds another direct European connection for Santo Domingo and strengthens the Dominican Republic’s position within international air travel networks. Rome also provides onward connections to destinations across Italy and other parts of Europe through ITA Airways’ wider network.

For the Dominican tourism sector, additional nonstop capacity from Europe can expand access to the country’s capital and surrounding destinations. Santo Domingo combines international air connectivity with access to the city’s historic center, cultural attractions and business districts, while also serving as a gateway to other parts of the country.

The route is scheduled as a seasonal operation for the 2026-2027 winter period, making its initial deployment particularly relevant to travelers planning trips between late November and the end of March.

ITA Airways announced the route in April as part of its expansion of its intercontinental network. The airline said the Santo Domingo service represents its first destination in Central America and complements its existing direct services to markets in the United States, Canada, Brazil and Argentina.

With the addition of the Rome-Santo Domingo service, passengers will have a new nonstop option between the Italian capital and the Dominican Republic during the winter season, while the two weekly frequencies from December are expected to provide greater flexibility for holiday and leisure travel.
