El Prodigio Brings Merengue Celebration to Santiago Arena

The opening notes of “Interplanetario” immediately set the tone at the Arena del Cibao, where Krency García, El Prodigio, and the Súper Banda launched their first presentation at the Santiago venue with a celebration of merengue spanning several generations.

The musicians appeared wearing jackets marked with the number 22, while El Prodigio took center stage in an elegant outfit. The production combined live music, audiovisual elements and a tightly coordinated performance that kept the audience engaged throughout the evening.

After the opening song, El Prodigio thanked the Santiago audience for supporting the Súper Banda and described the occasion as a historic night, noting that the return came after years of requests from the public.

A Repertoire Built Around Merengue Classics

The concert moved through songs familiar to different generations of Dominican listeners. The repertoire included “Que Se Vaya,” “Los Limones,” “Los Celos,” “Cabezita Loca,” “Homenaje a Toribio,” “Mi Tía” and “Mi Lindo País.”

“Ojitos Mexicanos” was performed by Robert Liriano, while “El Bombillo del Amor,” “Pura” and “El Estrujao” added to a set that combined recognizable songs with the visual production projected throughout the performance.

The audiovisual elements accompanied the music rather than serving as a separate attraction, reinforcing the concert’s focus on the band’s live performance and its connection with the audience.

Ramón Orlando Joins El Prodigio on Stage

One of the night’s standout moments came with the arrival of Ramón Orlando, who joined El Prodigio on stage to perform “Qué Mujer Qué Está Apreta.”

The appearance prompted a strong response from the audience and added another established figure from Dominican merengue to the night’s lineup. The concert then continued with “Enamorado,” “Sobre una Estrella y el Sol,” “Los Camiones” and “La Parrandera.”

Fefita La Grande Draws Another Ovation

The evening’s other major surprise came when Fefita La Grande, known as La Mayimba and Vieja Fefa, appeared on stage. The audience stood to welcome the veteran Dominican performer, whose participation brought another generation of merengue and típico music into the concert.

Fefita joined El Prodigio for “Vamo’ Hablar Inglés,” prompting the crowd to call for another song after her performance. Her appearance extended one of the night’s most celebrated segments before the concert moved toward its closing sequence.

The Súper Banda initially said goodbye with “La Funda,” but the audience’s response brought the musicians back for an encore. The night ultimately concluded with “Aunque le Pique” and “Ta Buena.”

The Santiago engagement continues this Saturday at the Arena del Cibao, with a second performance scheduled for 8:00 p.m. The additional show gives the reunion between El Prodigio and the Santiago audience another opportunity to continue a concert series built around merengue, familiar repertoire and appearances by prominent Dominican performers.
