Juan Luis Guerra to Headline Santo Domingo 2026 Games Closing Ceremony
The Dominican singer-songwriter will perform his patriotic composition "Canto a la Patria" during the closing ceremony of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, bringing the centennial edition of the regional event to a close on August 8.
Juan Luis Guerra will take center stage at the closing ceremony of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, delivering a performance that organizers describe as one of the defining moments of the event’s conclusion.
The internationally acclaimed Dominican artist is scheduled to perform “Canto a la Patria”, a patriotic composition he wrote and donated to the Dominican state in 2006. His appearance is expected to serve as both a tribute to the country and a recognition of the more than 900 people who contributed to producing the ceremonies marking the Games’ centennial edition.
A Symbolic Finale to the Regional Sporting Event
Alberto Zayas, the general producer and creative director of the opening and closing ceremonies, described Guerra’s participation as a meaningful gift for the Dominican Republic.
“Receiving this gift from the maestro is an honor for the entire country. Closing the centennial edition of the Games with his voice will be an unforgettable moment,” Zayas said.
José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee, said Guerra’s participation reflects the broad national support behind the Games. He thanked the artist for his contribution and said organizers are committed to delivering a closing ceremony worthy of what he described as sixteen memorable days of competition.
Celebrating Dominican Culture on an International Stage
With a career spanning more than four decades, Juan Luis Guerra has become one of the Dominican Republic’s most internationally recognized musicians, helping bring the country’s music and culture to audiences around the world through genres such as merengue and bachata.
His performance is expected to provide a distinctly Dominican conclusion to one of the region’s largest multi-sport events, combining athletic achievement with a celebration of the country’s cultural identity.
The closing ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. on August 8 at the Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto in Santo Domingo, where athletes, officials, and spectators will gather to mark the end of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.
