Dominican Education Ministry Urges Families to Verify Bono a Mil Eligibility
The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Education is calling on parents and guardians of public school students to confirm their information for the 2026-2027 Bono a Mil for Education program, which will provide a one-time payment of RD$1,000 per eligible student before the new school year begins.
The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) is urging parents, guardians, and caregivers of students enrolled in public schools to verify their information through the Bono a Mil online platform ahead of the start of the 2026-2027 academic year on August 24.
The government initiative provides a one-time payment of RD$1,000 for each eligible student enrolled and actively attending a public educational center. The financial assistance is intended to help families cover back-to-school expenses before classes resume.
How Families Can Check Their Eligibility
Parents and legal guardians can verify whether they qualify by accessing the Bono a Mil portal. To complete the process, applicants must enter their national identification number (cédula), a mobile phone number, and the student identification (ID) number for each child under their care.
MINERD noted that families who do not know a student’s identification number can obtain it directly from the public school where the child is enrolled. Once the information has been validated, eligible beneficiaries will receive a text message containing a Banreservas Remittances code, which can be used to collect the payment at any Banreservas branch.
Nearly 1.4 Million Students Expected to Benefit
For the 2026-2027 school year, the program is expected to benefit 948,762 parents, guardians, and caregivers, representing 1,394,482 students enrolled in public schools across the Initial, Primary, and Secondary education levels.
According to MINERD, the verification campaign forms part of its broader preparations for the upcoming academic year. The ministry said the objective is to ensure students begin classes with the necessary support while allowing eligible families to receive government assistance in time for the start of the school calendar.
The Bono a Mil program was introduced in 2023 as part of the Dominican government’s efforts to reduce the financial burden of school-related expenses for families with children in the country’s public education system.
