Jefferson Rojas made an immediate impact in the Dominican Republic’s 2026-27 professional baseball season, hitting two home runs to lead the Gigantes del Cibao to a 7-1 win over the Tigres del Licey at Estadio Quisqueya.

The rookie third baseman went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, providing the offensive spark that helped the Gigantes improve to 2-0. The victory kept them among the early leaders in the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), alongside the Estrellas Orientales, who also opened the campaign with two consecutive wins.

Jefferson Rojas powers the Gigantes offense

Rojas opened his home run account in the second inning with a solo shot, then returned to the long-ball column in the seventh with another solo homer. His performance marked a notable milestone for the franchise at Estadio Quisqueya.

He became the first Gigantes player to hit two home runs in a game at the stadium since Nelson Cruz accomplished the feat on December 26, 2008.

Agustín Ramírez also went deep in the second inning, connecting for a solo home run as the Gigantes built their advantage. He finished 2-for-5, while Pablo Reyes contributed two hits and an RBI to support the visitors’ offense.

Pitching keeps Licey under control

The Gigantes received an effective start from Jake Eder, who worked three innings and allowed just one hit while striking out five batters. Cristopher Molina earned the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0.

For Licey, starting pitcher Vladimir Gutiérrez took the loss after surrendering three runs and four hits over 4.1 innings. Despite the damage, he recorded eight strikeouts and finished with an 0-1 record.

The Tigres struggled to generate enough offense to challenge the Gigantes. Estevan Florial, Maikel Franco, Ramón Hernández and Gustavo Núñez provided notable hits, but the team finished well short of the visitors’ seven-run total.

Gigantes share the early LIDOM lead

The win gives the Gigantes a 2-0 record at the beginning of the 2026-27 LIDOM season. They share the unbeaten mark with the Estrellas Orientales as teams begin establishing their positions in the Dominican winter baseball championship.

For the Gigantes, Rojas’ early production offers a promising start to the campaign, while the team’s combination of home-run power and effective pitching has helped secure back-to-back victories. Licey, meanwhile, will look to respond after being limited to one run in the matchup.
